On behalf of Board President Kelli Nelson and the entire Board of Education, we are happy to share with you the formal announcement of the Board's decision to hire Dr. Charles Kyle as the District's next superintendent.
Dr. Kyle will be formally approved for hire by the Board at a special meeting tomorrow, June 3, at 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Kyle brings 29 years of leadership experience in education and currently serves as Superintendent of Burr Ridge Community Consolidated School District 180. In his time at Burr Ridge, Dr. Kyle collaborated closely with faculty, staff, students, families, administrators, and the Board of Education to drive significant progress, including restoring student achievement to pre-pandemic levels, reducing disciplinary incidents, and increasing both student and staff attendance.
Before his tenure at Burr Ridge, Dr. Kyle was the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services at Wheaton Warrenville Community Unit School District 200. In that role, he oversaw the district’s two high schools, managed the fine and performing arts programs, and directed human resources. He also served as the district’s safety officer, FOIA officer, and uniform grievance officer.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Kyle served as principal of St. Charles East High School for seven years. Under his leadership, the school saw increased academic success among underrepresented students, with notable gains in SAT/ACT scores, AP course enrollment, test participation, and extracurricular involvement. He also served for a decade as assistant principal and then principal at Haines Middle School, where he led school improvement initiatives focused on math, reading, SEL, and writing. In 2006, Haines Middle School received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence.
Dr. Kyle began his career as a 6th-grade English and Social Studies teacher in Plainfield School District 202, where he also coached varsity boys’ soccer.
Originally from Pasadena, California, Dr. Kyle later moved to Wheaton, Illinois. He earned his B.A. in Secondary Education from Augustana College and holds an Educational Specialist degree, M.S. in Education Administration, and Ed.D. from Northern Illinois University. He and his wife Julianne have four children, ranging from a recent college graduate working in insurance to a high school student active in academics and athletics.
“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the Skokie School District 73.5 community,” said Dr. Kyle. “I look forward to getting to know the students, families, staff, and broader community. It is a privilege to build on the district’s success and help lead important initiatives, including the Building 73.5 Plan to enhance school facilities.”
Board of Education President Kelli Nelson shared her enthusiasm about the new leadership.
“This superintendent search brought forth an exceptional group of candidates, making this a truly challenging decision for the board of education. I want to emphasize that we were truly fortunate to choose from a field of highly accomplished professionals, each bringing unique strengths and impressive credentials.
"In the end, Dr. Kyle stood out for his breadth of experience, unwavering dedication to students and families, and his calm, approachable leadership style. His vision and values align with our district’s strategic goals and mission. We are confident that he will be a tremendous asset to our schools and community.
"We look forward to welcoming Dr. Kyle to the District 73.5 community and beginning this exciting new chapter in partnership with him.”
Drs. Roberts and Osburn will continue as Interim Co-Superintendents until July 1, when Dr. Kyle will begin his formal duties.
