Message from Dr. Gordon
Dear Parents:
Our students are so excited to perform in the Spring Celebration of Song, coming up on Friday, May 20! Kindergarten students will perform twice, at 9:00 a.m., along with the morning Preschool classes and again at 1:30 p.m., with the afternoon Preschool classes. The whole family is invited to to attend, but due to space limitations, we ask that Kindergarten families choose only one, either morning or afternoon, performance to attend.
As we begin the home stretch and anticipate the end of the school year, there are a few activities I want to share.
Mad Science: Due to the success of our after-school Mad Science enrichment program, we’re bringing Mad Science sessions to each of our classes during school hours next week. Kindergarten sessions will be on Monday; Preschool on Wednesday. Be sure to ask your son or daughter what they learned. Thanks to our PTA for sponsoring these special learning experiences!
Summer Plans: Have you considered all the opportunities for summer learning that are offered through our district?
- The Center for Gifted programs for students entering grades K-8 will take place at McCracken Middle School. Session I will be June 13-17 and Session II will be June 20-24. Each session is only $75 and scholarships are available by contacting me by email. Register online at centerforgifted.org. All District 73.5 families receive an automatic discount.
- It’s not too late to register for our District 73.5 Summer School program. Please contact Nancy Ariola by email if you’d like to register or for more information.
- Camp Curiosity is for students whose second language is English and will be entering 1st or 2nd Grade in the fall (this year’s Kindergartners and 1st Graders). Camp Curiosity meets Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Elizabeth Meyer School. The cost is only $20.00.
- JumpStart Kindergarten is for incoming Kindergarten students. For three weeks, August 8-26 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., students will attend a fun enriching class with Kindergarten teachers. The cost is $100 per week and students may register for one, two, or all three weeks. This is truly a way to “jumpstart” your child’s Kindergarten year! Contact Mrs. Eisenstein by email for more information.
The Pantastic “Kids Who Care” underpants collection for the Niles Township Community Clothing Closet is still going on. The collection box in the Meyer School lobby is ready for your donation of new underpants!
Sincerely,
Dr. Alison Gordon

Schoolkidz School Supply Orders
The District 73.5 PTA is pleased to once again offer the opportunity to pre-order school supplies for the 2016-2017 school year. We have contracted with SchoolKidz School Supplies, who will provide and package the supplies for us, and return a portion of all proceeds back to the PTA. The school supply kit you order for your Meyer student(s) will be individually packaged and delivered to your child’s classroom before the first day of the school year. Flyers for the promotion, including a list of the supplies and grade-level pricing, will be sent home the week of May 9.
Visitor Reminders: All visitors must check in at the main office during regular school hours for the continued safety and security of all district students and staff. Valid identification (driver’s license or state I.D.) should be available to present to office staff prior to entry approval. Once you receive your visitor’s pass, please restrict your movement in the building to your pre-arranged purpose. Visitors entering the building after hours must be escorted by a district staff member to and from their meeting location. Also important to remember, is that students have been directed never to open exterior doors for any visitors, known or unknown, during regular or after school hours. This policy is to limit the risk of any individual entering our building without checking in to receive proper approval. We continue to welcome visitors at each of our district buildings, but ask that you respect our safety procedures and policies.
