STAY TUNED: Additional workshops and an open house are planned for spring 2026 to keep the conversation going and explore next steps together. Learn more on our Building 73.5 web page.
TRIMESTER 1 REPORT CARDS
Trimester 1 report cards were released electronically through the PowerSchool Parent Portal website TODAY, December 12th, at 3:00 p.m. Also at 3:00 p.m., an email was sent to parents and guardians with instructions for how to view, print, and save their student's report card.
Please watch your inbox for the Trimester One Report Cards message. The emails are sent by school, from the principal, so families with students at multiple schools will receive multiple emails. Be sure to check the principal's greeting and some highlights from Trimester One!

THANK YOU TO OUR SNOW CREW!
It takes a lot to plow, shovel, and salt around all the entrances and exits at Meyer, Middleton, and McCracken– especially the blacktops, circle drive, and along the side streets so students can get safely to and from cars in the drop off/pick up line. We are very grateful to the Buildings & Grounds team who helps clear the way so we can get in and out safely.
Please check the MIDDLETON section of the Weekly below for special snow and ice arrival and dismissal instructions and a map.

AROUND TOWN
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Thank you to all the families who donated to Meyer’s Coins for Kindness campaign. We collected $1,052.59 in our 7-day collection!
Kindergarten classes will “shop” for gifts for our families at the Meyer Mart on Tuesday, December 16th to learn about “needs” and “wants,” and our preschool classes will wrap the presents and create the cards for families. We hope our students will also learn that small acts of kindness can add up to a whole lot when we work together, as a community! We are grateful to our students, families, and staff for their generosity to help Meyer families this holiday season. Thank you so much!
SAVE THE DATE: Preschool Open House
Meyer School will host a Preschool Open House for new families interested in the 2026-2027 school year on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
If you have neighbors and friends who have children turning 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1, 2026, please help us spread the word!
Preschool registration for the 2026-2027 school year will open on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9th for District 73.5 residents, and on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12th for non-residents. Returning preschool students who will be in PreK 4 for the 2026-2027 school year will receive an email from Bethany Mullins before Winter Break regarding your plans for the 2026-2027 school year. Please feel free to contact her with questions at [email protected].
Next week, we will be working on “walking feet” at school. We use our walking feet to be safe at school. We use walking feet in the classroom and hallway. We explain that we use walking feet in the classroom so we don’t trip or bump into anyone or anything.
At home, you can talk about where there are safe places to run vs. walk. You can talk about and practice walking feet with family in parking lots, in stores, and at the library. You can talk about and practice running when you are at the park or in your yard.
To help your child learn about using “walking feet,” you can watch this video together! In this video, Grover learns the word “walk.”

Please be sure to send students to school with warm winter weather gear, including hats and gloves! If your student has snowpants and boots at school, and it’s outdoor recess, they can play in the snow! When our Bulldogs play, they sometimes play hard! It’s common for students to come in from recess with some article of clothing wet; please consider sending a change of clothes, including socks, just in case! The nurse’s office does not have enough spare clothes for our 530 students to borrow! Thanks for your help.
SNOW & ICE ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL. Please remember that ALL cars MUST enter the drop off/pick up line on Madison from Trumbull. No cars should be entering the line from Saint Louis. This is the same procedure we have followed all year. We do have some drop offs and pick ups at doors on Saint Louis, and we need to keep Saint Louis clear for those families. Snow and ice can add time to our procedures, and we appreciate your help keeping everyone safe.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
ART ROOM NEWS
All Middleton artists in 1st-5th grade recently participated in clay week! Students had the opportunity to practice a variety of clay skills. We created pinch pots, coil hearts, penguins, snowmen, and cupcake sculptures. Students were very excited to experiment with clay and will be glazing their creations after winter break!
"THAT'S MY STORY"
Last week, Middleton students enjoyed “That’s My Story,” a theatre production created by Niles North High School students using elementary students’ stories. In November, high school performers chose several stories from each elementary school and developed skits about them to perform back to young audiences.
Congratulations to all students who submitted stories, including Middleton‘s chosen authors - Faith G., Mira G., June D., Charlie C., and Bruk K.!
Middleton students were also excited to find that several of the high school performers they saw - and also the show’s director - were former Middleton students.
BUILD A PLAY: Home Alone
This year's fall EnrichMD program included a residency program with Northlight Theater. "Build a Play" offered students an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of theater through a curriculum that emphasizes collaboration and play. The program culminated with a performance of an original play based on a familiar narrative or theme. Middleton students performed "Home Alone" for an audience of their parents. It was very cute!
THE WEEK BEFORE BREAK!
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17th
CHAMPS Assembly
We’re excited to share that our Bulldogs will be celebrating positive behavior at our upcoming CHAMPS Assembly! We’ll kick things off with a short presentation to review our building-wide expectations. For the second half of the assembly… get ready! Middleton will host its first-ever Staff vs. Students Nukem game. YAY! We can’t wait to see who takes home the win — start making your predictions now! Students who want a chance to play can place their Pride Paw in the designated classroom bin. Classroom teachers will draw names at random on Wednesday morning.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18th
Buddy Classroom Kindness Cardmaking
Middleton students will join with their buddy classrooms to make cards and celebrate our accomplishment of reaching 1,500 Pride Paws as a school. Thank you to the PTO for donating supplies. The cards will be mailed to cardzforkidz.org. We look forward to spreading kindness throughout our school and community!

COLD WEATHER IS HERE TO STAY! Please make sure your middle school students are dressed for the weather conditions each school day. Students may need to wait outdoors for a short time during arrival and dismissal and any extracurricular activities. When we experience extreme temperatures with below-zero wind chills in the morning we will bring students into the building starting at 7:30 a.m. (band students enter at 7:00 a.m. on rehearsal days). Students remain in the lobby and Learning Center until the 7:50 a.m. bell rings. Students who participate in extracurricular activities indicate they will take the bus, walk home, or get picked up. Please ensure that you discuss and clearly communicate those transportation plans and arrive promptly to pick up your child, especially during winter weather conditions. Students are not allowed to remain inside the school building after school hours unsupervised.
Students participate in outdoor recess throughout the school year unless there is a significant weather-related or other external factor that necessitates an indoor program. Skokie 73.5 follows the Child Care Weather Watch chart to determine whether the temperature and wind chill are safe for outdoor recess. If the temperature with wind chill feels like 15 degrees or warmer, and conditions outdoors are safe, students will go outside. Thank you for helping to ensure that your child is prepared with appropriate outerwear for recess so that they are comfortable during our outdoor programming! Families in need of outerwear for their child should contact administration for additional resources.
TRIMESTER ONE HORNET HIVE STUDENT ASSEMBLY
We will celebrate McCracken student accomplishments during TRIMESTER ONE at our HORNET HIVE assembly on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19th. Students will be recognized for their academic, behavioral, and extracurricular successes. They will also have the opportunity to participate in grade level staff vs. students competitive basketball activities. Students voted for their preferred activity and basketball was their number one pick!
As we move closer to winter break, we want to reward students for displaying respectful, responsible, and ready behaviors. Students who do not earn any behavior referrals at McCracken from DECEMBER 3rd through DECEMBER 19th will have the opportunity to be entered into grade level raffles with fun prizes, which will be distributed at our Hornet Hive assembly! Please reinforce the importance of following behavior expectations at school with your child, contributing to a safe and positive learning environment.
STUDENT READING PANEL
A group of teachers and staff were able to participate in a professional development session this week focused on student reading experiences in Skokie District 73.5. A panel of 8th grade students engaged in an honest discussion of their lives as readers in District 73.5. McCracken librarian Tori Gammeri facilitated the conversation with questions designed to reveal insights into the minds (and hearts) of our readers. Upon conclusion of the student panel, teachers had the opportunity to synthesize what the students shared and reflect on potential takeaways to guide future instructional practices.
McCRACKEN STUDENT COMMUNICATION EXPECTATIONS & SUPPORTS
We believe that every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued at school. Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment is essential and includes maintaining learning spaces free from hate speech and bullying. When students feel safe, they are better able to focus on learning, build positive relationships, and thrive academically and socially. Preventive programming is in place at McCracken to support positive peer relationships at school. We have listed a few of these programs HERE and ask for your partnership in reinforcing the importance of kindness, respect, and acceptance at home, helping us to ensure that our school remains a place where all students can feel safe and reach their full potential.
EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMMING
Here at McCracken, we are proud to offer a variety of student athletic and enrichment programs. These programs allow students to exercise their strengths, tackle areas of growth, and socialize with peers. Be sure to sign your student up for one of our great extracurricular clubs or activities here at McCracken! Please access the McCracken Extracurricular Brochure HERE.
EXTRACURRICULAR SPECTATOR GUIDELINES
We appreciate all the support our families provide to our McCracken student-athletes, coaching staff, and referees throughout the school year. Participation in a variety of extracurricular programming fosters improved academic and social skills such as time management, leadership, and teamwork. In order to run a productive, positive, and safe athletic program, our families must follow the Little 9 Township parent/guardian expectations. VIEW THE McCRACKEN EXTRACURRICULAR SPECTATOR GUIDELINES...
ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL SAFETY
Please help us to keep our students, staff, families, and visitors safe by following our arrival and dismissal procedures. Parents and guardians who drive their student(s) to or from school must use the Circle Drive off of East Prairie Road. VIEW THE McCRACKEN ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL SAFETY REMINDERS...

Equity Mission Statement
WE BELIEVE that inclusivity and belonging is the foundation for equity.
ALL CHILDREN CAN LEARN, at high achievement levels, when equity is infused into every aspect of education.
WE ACKNOWLEDGE the systemic inequities present in school systems and recognize the impact they continue to have on marginalized communities.
WE COMMIT to teaching, learning, and growing in order to identify and dismantle inequitable systems and to create a community where barriers are removed so that everyone can reach their full potential.
WE BELIEVE that students succeed when they can see themselves represented in our staff, curriculum, opportunities, and our shared environment. We accomplish this through professional development, curriculum revision, community engagement, and systems evaluations.
WE RECOGNIZE the need to teach our students to identify the origins of unjust systems and empower them to use their critical thinking skills and agency to responsibly disrupt the policies and practices that perpetuate inequalities.
