Elana Jacobs

Elana Jacobs, MEd, is a Special Education, Science, ESL, and Driver Education classroom teacher in Waukegan. As a former D219 School Board member, she unites diverse perspectives behind common causes and is not afraid of doing the hard work of relationship building. As a SEED participant at Meyer School (anti-racist training), Elana learned how to listen and implement equity-focused policy while including the voices of a diverse community. She is a member of the Illinois LGBT education task force that helps implement the law to teach LGBT history in K-12 schools. In Elana’s free time she runs triathlons, studies as a doctoral student in disability studies, and hangs out with her precocious pit bulls. Elana and her wife Helen love to hang out at the Skokie Public Library, the Skokie Dog Park, and Niles Township Soup Group. Elana helps raise lots of children, and she knows her experience helps make her a fair, empathetic person to tackle problems and solutions in Skokie D73.5 and beyond.
