Dear Skokie District 73.5 Parents,

The Centers for Disease Control no longer recommends weekly COVID-19 testing in schools. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Skokie Health Department (SHD) both support this guidance.

District 73.5 will resume our testing partnership with SHIELD Illinois beginning September 12, 2022. We will continue to offer SHIELD Testing for the following reasons:

  • We will be prepared to test if there is an increase in cases.
  • Some families feel safer knowing their child can be tested weekly.

Testing is not required, but is available for families who wish to participate. All students who will be tested must have an OPT-IN form on file.

  • Students who will be tested beginning September 12th must have an OPT-IN form on file by September 7th.
  • Students who wish to be tested later in the school year must submit the OPT-IN form before they can be tested.

McCracken students will test on Mondays. Meyer and Middleton students will test on Wednesdays.

Please visit https://www.sd735.org/health-services for District protocols, school COVID-19 guidance, and general health information. More information about SHIELD testing is available on the SHIELD Illinois website at https://www.uillinois.edu/shield.

Sincerely,

Dr. Zipporah Hightower
Superintendent
