Dear Parents and Guardians:

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families is of the utmost importance.

In order to maintain a safe learning environment for our students, we must practice our emergency response plans. This includes a Lockdown Drill. State law requires that we conduct at least one Lockdown Drill per school year in the presence of law enforcement officials. This ensures that students know their role during a potential threat.

The district works in partnership with the Skokie Police Department on a Lockdown Drill and appropriate procedures. This includes evacuating or safely sheltering students, staff, and visitors. The drill requires students to sit quietly and away from windows and doors. Police and administrators walk through the building to ensure everyone is following appropriate procedures.

We hope our staff and students never need to use the strategies learned during these drills. We practice in case an intruder is present in the building or the community.

Updated legislation allows parents and guardians to opt their child out of the Lockdown Drill. Students who opt out will be supervised elsewhere in the building during the drill. They will receive verbal guidance about drill procedures, but will not be expected to practice the procedures.

A Lockdown Drill is scheduled for Monday, October 3, 2022. If you would like to opt your child out of the drill, please complete the attached form and return to the school office by Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

If you have any questions, please contact a building administrator.

Sincerely,
The District 73.5 Administrative Team
