On January 19th, McCracken held its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Organized by 6th Grade Social Studies teacher Laura Williams, this is an opportunity for students to honor the legacy of Dr. King by volunteering their time to help our school and community. Ms. Williams was joined by 6th Grade Science teacher Carrie Eccleston, Learning Center Director Tori Gammeri, Multilingual teacher Sally Alvarado, and fine arts teacher William MacBeth.
More than 20 students came to McCracken on a day off of school and worked together to create a bulletin board, wipe down fitness machines, prepare garden pots for 6th grade planting, cleaning white boards, cutting out hearts for the front office, and sorting STEAM materials. They also organized and displayed library books, cleaned the loaner computers, removed outdated signage, returned lost bathroom passes to their respective classrooms, rounded up lost and found items and returned a bunch of lunch trays to the cafeteria. It was a very busy, productive 2 hours for this dedicated group of students and staff!
