Harvest Festival Concert

On Thursday, October 29, John Middleton Elementary will have its first ever Harvest Festival Concert featuring students in grades 1-3. This concert features traditional American folk music, art, and dance to gather us together during this festive time of year!

MAP, ACCESS, and CBM Results

This week the ACCESS test, Curriculum-based Measures (CBMs), and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) results were mailed home. The ACCESS was administered in January 2015 to all students who are English Language Learners. Reading and Math CBMs were administered to all students in grades preschool through 8th grade in September 2015. The MAP assessment was administered the first two weeks of school to all students in grades 2nd through 8th. If you have any questions regarding your child’s test reports, please contact your child’s teacher.

Playleaders Wanted

Middleton is in need of help supervising students during recess. If you are available between the hours of 10:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and like to play outside with children, please apply in the main office at Middleton.

ELP Inquiry Window

Our Extended Learning Program provides honors classes for students in Math and English Language Arts in grades 4-8. Students qualify for these classes based on a variety of measures. Families are notified of this information in June (for class placement for the upcoming school year). Parents may complete a Parent Inquiry if they feel their child may benefit from a more rigorous curriculum. The Parent Inquiry window opens October 1 and remains open until April 1. Parent Inquiry paperwork is available in the main office of Middleton and McCracken, or by contacting your school’s Assistant Principal.

It's time to order your 2015-2016 yearbook! What better way to remember this school year than with a yearbook for you and your child? These are memories you'll want to keep for years to come! The school yearbook costs $20 and is available for pre-order from now until December 18. Yearbooks will be distributed in May.

How to order: You may order online or return payment in the ordering envelope your child received at school. All checks should be made payable to HR Imaging. To order online, please visit book.hrimaging.com and select John Middleton Elem School.

Get Ready - Get Set - Go!

Outside that is…Don’t let your children miss out on all the outdoor fun. We love to play, and we want to play outside. Recess takes place every day of the school year. Students will be outside for 15-25 minutes each day in all different weather conditions. Children need warm jackets, hats, boots, and gloves. All children should have a change of clothes in case they get wet or extra dirty while playing outside. Clothes should be labeled with your child’s name in case clothing is lost, and should be kept in a large Ziploc or other type of bag for storage at school.

Walk To School Wednesday - Thank You!

A special thank you to the District 73.5 PTA for organizing our Walk to School Wednesday event this past week, and to the Skokie Police for providing extra support to ensure everyone’s safety. It was a lot of fun, the weather was great, and many families participated. Thank you to the families who took the time to walk with their children, and to the teachers who helped out by planning and participating in the event, and by encouraging our walkers!
