Parent Visit Day

On Friday, January 29, visit your child’s classroom any time between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to gain a better understanding of your child’s school day. Please look for a flier sent home with students for further information regarding this day.

Social-Emotional Screener

District 73.5 students in grades 3 through 8 will be completing a self-report social/emotional screener this winter (1/25/16 - 1/29/16), and spring (5/9/16 - 5/13/16). The purpose of this screening tool is to identify and proactively address students’ social/emotional needs. The screener will identify behavioral or emotional strengths and areas for growth. Data gathered from this screener will be used in conjunction with teacher and parent information to identify students in need of additional social, emotional, or behavioral support. If a student self-reports areas for growth, parents/guardians will be contacted by a member of student support services.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

From January 25-28, third and fifth graders will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). This is a diagnostic assessment used for a more in-depth measure of student ability. Content areas tested include verbal, non-verbal, and quantitative reasoning. If you have any questions about the CogAT please contact Emily McFadden via email.

Access Testing For English Language Learners

From January 11 to February 5, all students in the English Learner program will be taking the ACCESS test. The ACCESS test measures each EL student’s progress in learning English. The students will be tested in Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. This year the students will be taking these tests in small groups on the computer.  During this time, please make sure that your child eats a good breakfast, gets a good night’s sleep, and comes to school on time. Our students are making very good progress and we want to make sure that they show their growth on the ACCESS test. If you have any questions, please call your child’s EL teacher.

Winter Enrichment

Enrichment classes start on Monday, January 25. Confirmation forms went home on Tuesday, January 19. Enrichment registration is now closed. If you have any questions about your child's classes or departure, contact Enrichment Coordinator, Kimberly Davis by email

Enrichment Late Bus Information

There is no late bus on Tuesdays. The 4:00 pm late bus follows a different route than the 3:00 p.m. after school buses. The late bus stops are listed on the registration form. All parents who have children riding the late bus home after an enrichment class should explain to their children that their bus stop might not be the same as their regular bus stop. Take time to show your child(ren) the location of their late bus stop and point out familiar landmarks to make them feel more at ease. It is extremely helpful if someone is waiting at the late bus stop for them.

Important Notes

If a student has any outstanding fees, such as instructional, bus, lunch, library, etc., which are over $6.00, the student will not be allowed to participate in the Enrichment and any other student paid activities, until these fees are paid.

Skokie District 73.5  Participates In The 5Essentials Parent Survey 2016

Beginning on January 11 teachers, parents, and students across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the fourth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of our schools.

5 Essentials Survey LogoThe Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey will be conducted January 11 through March 11, 2016. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois and click the “Parent Survey” to begin. There are 17 questions and the survey should take approximately 15 minutes. If you have children in multiple buildings please complete one for each school.

Your participation in the parent survey will help us better understand our schools and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. If at least 20 percent of parents complete this survey, a parent supplement will also be generated. This will allow us to access to your valuable feedback.

Please help us reach at least 20 percent and participate! We will post updated participation rates in our Weekly and on the website during the survey window.  Additionally we will have devices available for parents to complete the survey at events such as parent visit day and PTA meetings. Thank you in advance for participating!

Participation Update: At the end of this week, our reports show that 10% of parents have taken the survey!

Elp Inquiry Window

Our Extended Learning Program provides honors classes for students in Math and English Language Arts in grades 4-8. Students qualify for these classes based on a variety of measures. Families are notified of this information in June (for class placement for the upcoming school year). Parents may complete a Parent Inquiry if they feel their child may benefit from a more rigorous curriculum. The Parent Inquiry window opens October 1 and remains open until April 1. Parent Inquiry paperwork is available in the main office of Middleton and McCracken, or by contacting your school’s Assistant Principal.
