School Report Cards

SchoolCenter Picture

Dear Parents and Community Members:

The Illinois School Report Cards provide information about how students perform on state achievement tests and the extent to which students meet state standards. Also included is information on student demographics, school district finances, average class size, and teacher degrees and experience. To address the federal No Child Left Behind requirements, there is also information on whether the schools and the District made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). For your information Middleton, McCracken, and the District as a whole have continued to meet AYP standards.

In March 2009, students in grades 3 through 8 took the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) in Reading and Math; students in grades 4 and 7 also completed the Science Assessment, while students in grades 5 and 8 completed the ISAT Writing Assessment. The Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA) was given to some students with significant disabilities. Both tests (ISAT and IAA) are used to determine whether a school or district has met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as required by the state and federal government. In early September 2009, parents received reports of their child's achievement on state tests. There are no required state achievement tests or AYP requirements for students in Pre-kindergarten through Grade 2.

The graphs in the report card illustrate the percentage of students in the State and the District who met or exceeded state standards. In all subject areas and for every grade level tested, the percentage of District 73.5 students who met or exceeded standards is greater than the state average. The test scores are also broken down by subgroup: gender, racial/ethnic background, students with disabilities, students limited in English language proficiency, and economically disadvantaged students.

There are four school report cards: one for the District and one for each of our schools which includes school accomplishments and goals. Links to the school report cards can be found on this page and on the individual school websites. Hard copies are also available in the school and district offices.

In addition to the School Report Cards, the State has published individual School Profiles to make it easier for parents to compare district information with state averages on class size, academic performance and other educational indicators.

If you have questions or would like more information about the school report card, please feel free to contact your child's principal or me.

Sincerely,
Kate Donegan
Superintendent
